Spring (#2023)
September 19th, 2015 12:07 AM
I have decided to do this so there is a guide as complete as I can stand to make it. If you have any questions, feel free to PM me. I hope this helps! :]

Agouti:

NOTE: Must be at least Extension E_ and Black must be kbrkbr, kbrk, or kk for agouti patterns to show.

As – this allele produces the saddle pattern.
At – this allele produces the points pattern.
Aw – this produces the “agouti” pattern, which consists of banded hairs.
Ay – this produces the sable color. Look to the Sable Modifier for the type of Sable you have.
a – this has no agouti modification, produces recessive black.

Order of Dominance: Ay>Aw>As>At>a.

Ay_ will always be sable.
AwAw, AwAs, AwAt and Awa will be Agouti pattern.
AsAs, AsAt and Asa will be saddle patterned.
AtAt and Ata will be the point pattern.
aa will be recessive black, liver or Isabella.

For the color that occurs in the agouti patterns other than black/blue/liver/Isabella, look to the chinchilla gene.

Black:

NOTE: Extension must be E_ to show.

K – dominant black. Hides agouti patterns.
kbr – brindle patterned. Shows agouti patterns.
k – recessive black. Shows agouti patterns.

Order of Dominance: K>kbr>k.

K_ is dominant black based.
kbrkbr, kbrk is brindle coated.
kk is recessive black based.

Chinchilla:

NOTE: The dog must be Extension ee OR have an agouti pattern to show.

C – red.
ca – albino. Only shows when caca.
Cch – gold.
Ce – white.
This is an incomplete/partial dominance gene except for ca, which is recessive. This means that the genes are additive in this case. Look below to determine color.

CC – red
Cca – red
CCch – gold.
CCe – yellow if ee based, tan if E_ based.
CchCch – yellow if ee based, tan if E_ based.
CchCe – cream.
Cchca – yellow if ee based, tan if E_ based.
CeCe – white.
Ceca – white.
caca – albino, regardless if EE, Ee or ee.

Dilution:

NOTE: Dilution requires E_ to show. It is an extension modifier.

DD – regular color.
Dd – carries blue.
dd – blue.

Order of Dominance: D>d.

Extension:

NOTE: Extension determines whether the dog is red or black based in color.

E – black based.
Em – black based with mask.
Eg – black based grizzle.
e – red based.

Order of Dominance: Em>E>Eg>e

Em_ is black based with mask.

EgEg, Ege is grizzle.
ee is red based.

Grey:

NOTE: Must be E_ based to show grey.

G_ – grey
gg – normal colored.

Order of Dominance: G>g.

Harlequin:

NOTE: Must be Extension E_ and Merle M¬_ to show. Harlequin is a modifier, like Agouti.

HH – harlequin pattern, stillborn.
Hh – harlequin pattern, alive.
hh – normal colored.

Order of Dominance: H>h.

Liver:

NOTE: Must be Extension E_ to show. It is an Extension modifier.

BB – normal colored.
Bb – carries liver.
bb – liver.

Order of Dominance: B>b.

Merle:

NOTE: Must be E_ to show. This is a modifier, and works with agouti patterns and brindle.

MM – double merle. Can have eye and ear defects.
Mm – merle.
mm – normal colored.

Order of Dominance: M>m.

Sable Modifier:

NOTE: This only comes into play if your dog is extension E_ and Agouti Ay_.

Ac – Clear Sable.
As – Shaded Sable.
At – Tipped Sable.

Order of Dominance: Ac>At>As
Ac_ - Clear Sable.
AtAt, AtAs – Tipped Sable.
AsAs – Shaded Sable.

Silver:

NOTE: Must be Extension E_ to show.

VV – “turning light silver” added to color.
Vv – “turning silver” added to color.
vv – normal color.

Order of Dominance: V>v.

Spotting:

NOTE: Shows on any color!

S – no spotting, solid.

Urajiro:

NOTE: Shows on any color.

XX – normal color.
Xx – carries Urajiro.
xx – Urajiro.

Order of Dominance: X>x.

ENDING NOTE: Isabella is the only color not covered in the above list – it is simply Extension E_, Dilution dd and Liver bb.

Nose color:

NOTE: The standard nose color is black. The following are exceptions:

Dilute dd dogs will have a blue nose, whether Extension is EE, Ee or ee.
Liver bb dogs will have a liver nose, whether Extension is EE, Ee or ee.
White dogs with Dilute DD or Dd and Liver BB or Bb will have a pink nose.
White dogs with Dilute dd will have a blue nose.
White dogs with Liver bb will have a liver nose.
White dogs with Dilute dd and Liver bb will have an Isabella nose.
Merle dogs, whether Extension EE, Ee or ee will have a butterfly nose.
Isabella dogs will have an Isabella nose.
Albino dogs will have an Albino nose.
Eye color:

NOTE: The standard eye color is brown. The following are exceptions:

Dilute dd dogs will have amber eyes, whether Extension is EE, Ee or ee.
Liver bb dogs will have amber eyes, whether Extension is EE, Ee or ee.
White dogs with Dilute dd will have amber eyes.
White dogs with Liver bb will have amber eyes.
White dogs with Dilute dd and Liver bb will have amber eyes.
Merle dogs, whether Extension EE, Ee or ee will have merle blue eyes.
Isabella dogs will have amber eyes.
Albino dogs will have light blue eyes.

ALSO NOTE ON EYES: There is another gene for blue eyes that is inherited separately in Siberian Huskies, Curly Windhounds, and both breeds of Corgi.

If I have missed anything, feel free to post it in the comments. I only ran into one situation where I didn’t know for sure what the outcome would be and there was not an example in game yet.

Small correction:
In Liver and Merle you wrote twice "Bb" and "Mm" (instead of "bb" and "mm"). Not a big deal when you know what it should say, but confusing for a new player.

Great guide, thanks!

Good catch Lypton & Crystal, I edited that into Spring's post since user editing doesn't currently exist. :)

Thanks guys, for catching the stuff I missed. I kinda did it all in one go, I knew of a couple of mistakes, I just hadn't made it around to posting. Thanks Baus, for fixing the ones pointed out. :D
